Public transportation plays a vital role in the daily lives of people living and working in Yaoundé. Thousands of residents rely on taxis, buses, motorcycles, and other forms of shared transportation to travel to work, school, markets, healthcare facilities, and other essential destinations. For many households, transportation is a significant part of their monthly expenses, meaning that changes in fares can directly affect their ability to manage other everyday costs.

The rising cost of transportation has also generated discussions about whether cities should take stronger measures to make public mobility more affordable. One proposal is to make public transportation completely free, allowing residents to travel without paying fares at the point of use. Supporters argue that this could reduce the financial burden on families, improve access to employment and education, and encourage more people to use public transportation instead of private vehicles.

However, making public transportation free would also require cities to identify reliable sources of funding for drivers, operators, maintenance, fuel, infrastructure, and service improvements. Some people may therefore prefer a targeted approach in which free or heavily subsidized transportation is provided only to groups such as students, seniors, people with disabilities, or low-income residents. Others may believe that the existing system should remain in place while authorities focus instead on improving reliability, safety, coverage, and the overall quality of transportation services.

This poll gives residents an opportunity to share their views on what approach would work best for Yaoundé. Whether you believe public transportation should be free for everyone, limited to specific groups, maintained under the current payment system, or whether you are still undecided, your response contributes to a broader picture of public opinion. The results can help highlight the priorities and concerns residents have regarding transportation affordability and the future of urban mobility.
